Score Vitae - How It Works

How It Works

When you visit the 'Score-Vitae Calculator' page you will be guided through the calculator, and your total 'Score-Vitae' will be worked out. This score will then be emailed to you, and it is up to you how you use this score - on your CV, or LinkedIn profile, for example.

Should you require additional experience or qualifications to be considered for a higher score, then this may require a review, for which a small fee will be charged. Details are on the 'Pricing Options' page.

The 'Score-Vitae Calculator' is split into 4 separate parts for you to input your experience and qualifications using sliders, manually entered numbers, and tick boxes, as detailed below:

SCORE-VITAE CALCULATOR EXPLAINED

Years of Employment

Initially the calculator will ask you for the number of years you have worked in the Construction Industry.

Within this number of years you can include work experience as well as placements, and it applies to academic teaching as well. You should round the number up.

Section 1

In Section 1 you will be asked what qualifications you have achieved right from school (GCSEs / O-Levels) all the way up to the present day.

The various qualifications have been scored / weighted according to how ‘valuable’ those qualifications are to you today.

For example, an NVQ scores 3 points, a 3-year Bachelors Degree scores 10 points, and a further 1-year Masters Degree contributes an additional 5 points (NB 4-year degrees score 15 points as some course combine Bachelors and Masters).

Section 2

In this section you will be asked what Institutes / Institutions you are currently affiliated to, and at what grade.

These are generally scored without any weighting between the various bodies i.e. An MCIOB has the same score as an MICE. However, for membership where a review / assessment is not required then a lesser score is given.

In general an Associate Member would score 5 points, a full Member 10 points, and Fellow 15 points is how these have been scored.

(If you are affiliated to particular body that is not listed please inform us and we can add it to the current list).

 Section 3

The last section is for additional qualifications, or certain accreditations, that you may have achieved during your lifetime working in construction.

If you have achieved some other qualifications that are not listed that you think are relevant to increase your score, or for any other specialist affiliations or accreditation's that you would like to have considered to increase your score, then this last part may need to be reviewed separately for which there may be a small fee to pay (if your scores ends up increasing).

For example, you may be associated with 'putting something back' via a University committee, or contribute to Local Authority education, undertake construction related charity work, or be involved with an Institute / Institution at an influencer / mentor level.

If you wish for a review to be undertaken to increase your score you will be taken to the 'Pricing Options' page where further details are provided on how to do this.

Example One

Someone who is 27 years old, has been working for 7 years in the construction industry, has achieved a number of qualifications, GCSEs, A-Levels, an NVQ or a degree, and is a Graduate or Associate member of an Institution, may have a Score-Vitae of 30.

This would be further broken down and shown as ‘7 + 23’, where 7 is the number of years worked, and 23 is the score for the other sections.

These numbers may be useful to Employers or Project Leaders as a guide as to the experience of this indiviudual.

Example Two

Someone else who is 50 years old, has been working for 30 years for various employers, and is Chartered, maybe a Fellow of an Institution, and have other accreditations, may have a Score-Vitae of 83.

This would be further broken down to be shown as ‘30 + 53’, and would show that this individual is a career construction professional with the likely motivation to self-improve.
